Hotel pick: 1 Hotel South Beach
Restaurant pick: Kyu

## Why this pairing

You have two different centers of gravity and a tight Thursday. The friend’s office is in South Beach; the workshop is in Wynwood Friday morning; you land at 2pm and go straight into calls; that night you want a client-friendly drinks-and-food meetup that does not wreck the next morning.

Stay on the beach Thursday. Put dinner on the mainland. That keeps the 2pm call block simple and still puts you in the workshop neighborhood that night.

**1 Hotel South Beach** (2341 Collins Ave) sits at the north end of South Beach, not in the Ocean Drive party strip. It is a 5–10 minute ride to most SoBe offices, and the Venetian Causeway is right below you — the cleanest path to Wynwood. The hotel is calm, design-forward, and actually usable as a workplace: decent desks, outdoor nooks, and a lobby you can take a call from if the room is not ready. That last point matters, because 2pm is before standard check-in.

**Kyu** (251 NW 25th St, Wynwood) is the Thursday-night move. Wood-fired Asian, shareable plates, a real bar, warehouse-garden room. It is still one of Miami’s default “this is a good Miami dinner” restaurants — including during Miami Spice — and it is a short walk or a few minutes’ ride from a typical Wynwood workshop venue. You can eat, have a couple of drinks, walk the client out, peek at the venue, and be back across the causeway by 10.

Do not eat on Ocean Drive. Do not book a tasting-menu marathon the night before you teach.

## Assumptions

- You are flying into MIA, not Fort Lauderdale.
- The friend’s office is in South Beach proper (Lincoln Road / Collins / Art Deco), not Mid-Beach or Bal Harbour.
- The workshop is Friday morning, roughly 9am, in central Wynwood.
- “We” is a small visiting group (about 2–6) plus the client, not a 15-person blowout.
- You want upscale and professional, not a club, and not a $2,000/night temple.
- At least Thursday night is required; Friday night is unspecified, so this is written as a one-night core stay you can extend.

If any of those are wrong, the backup section still works.

## Thursday, in order

**1. Airport → hotel, not hotel → office → hotel.**
MIA to 1 Hotel is typically 30–45 minutes at 2pm, worse if it is raining. Do not detour to Wynwood first. Ask the hotel for early check-in when you book, and again the morning of. If the room is late, take the first call from a quiet corner of the property, then walk or Uber to the friend’s office.

**2. Work the SoBe block as planned.**
You are already in the right neighborhood. No causeway in the middle of a call stack.

**3. Buffer before dinner.**
September in Miami means heat, humidity, and a decent chance of a late-afternoon storm. Leave the office with enough time to change at the hotel. Do not roll into a client dinner straight from a war-room.

**4. Dinner at Kyu, 7:00 or 7:30pm.**
Book as soon as you can — Resy is the usual path. Ask for a quieter table if you are talking shop; the room gets loud. Order family-style (the roasted cauliflower and the brisket are the greatest hits for a reason), drink, and keep it to two hours. You have a morning.

If the client would rather do drinks-first: sit at the bar or get there 30 minutes before the table.

**5. Optional 15-minute venue walk.**
You are already in Wynwood. Confirm the door, the projector situation, where coffee comes from. Then Uber back to 1 Hotel via the Venetian Causeway (about 15–20 minutes at that hour).

## Friday morning

Leave the hotel by **7:45am** if you need to be in Wynwood at 9:00 with setup time. The Venetian Causeway is the route; Julia Tuttle (I-195) is the backup if Venetian is a mess. Do not drive yourself. SoBe and Wynwood parking will eat the morning.

Uber/Lyft both ways. A rental car is a liability in both neighborhoods.

## Booking notes

- **Hotel:** Request early check-in and a room away from elevator banks / pool deck. Mention you have calls on arrival. If they cannot guarantee a 2pm room, they can usually store bags and park you somewhere quiet.
- **Kyu:** Reserve now. Thursday night in Wynwood fills up. If Kyu is sold out, use the backups below — do not default to a hotel restaurant.
- **Weather:** Have an indoor fallback table. Outdoor Wynwood dining is great until a 20-minute downpour arrives.

## Backups

**Hotel, if 1 Hotel is sold out or too expensive**
- **The Betsy** (1440 Ocean Drive) — smaller, quieter, more old-Florida than wellness-resort. Better if you want a boutique and can tolerate a slightly longer ride to Wynwood.
- **Arlo Wynwood** — flip the logic: walk to the workshop Friday, Uber to the SoBe office Thursday. Only do this if the Friday morning show is the higher-stakes event and someone can take the 2pm calls from the car or the Arlo lobby.

Skip: W South Beach, Goodtime, and anything on Ocean Drive whose lobby is a nightclub. You cannot take a 2:30pm client call there.

**Restaurant, if Kyu is booked or the group wants to talk more than eat**
- **Mandolin Aegean Bistro** (Buena Vista / Design District, ~10 minutes from Wynwood) — garden, Greek/Turkish, actually possible to hear each other. Best if the party is 2–4 and the goal is conversation.
- **Michael’s Genuine** (Design District) — the classic Miami client dinner. Food-first, not a scene.
- **Amara at Paraiso** (Edgewater) — bayfront midpoint between SoBe and Wynwood. Use this if you want a view and a geographic compromise.

If it is drinks-only after all: **Sweet Liberty** on South Beach (20th St) is the serious cocktail bar, with food. That keeps the client on your side of the water, which is slightly rude if they are coming from the mainland, but it is the right bar.

## What not to do

- Do not stay in Brickell. It is the wrong direction for both the office and the workshop.
- Do not book Joe’s Stone Crab. It is a Miami classic and it is not in season in early September.
- Do not turn Thursday into a 1am Wynwood crawl. The workshop is the actual job.
